Considered one of the greatest films ever made, The General is a classic Buster Keaton movie from 1926.  It is a silent film story of love and adventure which continues to be a favorite even today.  We follow Johnnie Gray, a train engineer who falls in love with Annabelle Lee while working on the locomotive (named The General) when the American Civil War breaks out. Drama unfolds as Annabelle Lee is kidnapped and Johnnie must rescue her, leading to several iconic scenes in cinematic history from the end of the silent movie era.

Invite your film loving friends as we host this movie set in the time period of Downton Abbey. Paul Booth, professor at DePaul University, will start off the evening with a short introduction to the film as you enjoy light hors d’oeuvres and drinks. Period-appropriate costumes (upstairs or downstairs!) are highly encouraged and there will be a costume contest with prizes awarded each evening. Doors open at 6:00 p.m.

Refunds and exchanges are permitted up to 24 hours in advance of the program start time or exhibition admission time by calling 312-482-8933, ext. 21 or in person at the Driehaus Museum. Program and exhibition tickets are non-refundable within 24 hours of the program start time or the exhibition entry time.

Please note that in exchange for your reservation and/or ticket, you have authorized the Driehaus Museum to photograph, record, film, video tape, or otherwise use your likeness, performance, image, and/or voice for use in general and/or program-related Driehaus Museum promotional materials.
