Visitor Services Associates in Museums Today

Richard H. Driehaus Museum Staff

If you have ever visited the Driehaus Museum you will probably recall that on every floor you visited there was always an employee in a blue blazer walking around. These staff members, despite any thoughts to the contrary, are not security guards. Instead stepping away from the traditional museum docent model, we have employees on each floor to assist guests and interpret our collections. Each guide goes through a rigorous training process in order to have the knowledge to answer any questions about the mansion, the collection, the history of the neighborhood, etc. We have been thrilled to see museums, such as the Broad Museum in Los Angeles, have also implemented this model. Our guests always comment on how friendly and knowledgeable our guides and Visitor Services Associates are.Read more about the Broad Museum’s success.
