Today the room displays a late 19th-century marble sculpture depicting Cupid and Psyche, from the studio of Italian sculptor Orazio Andreoni. The statue depicts Cupid in flight around Pysche who stands on a rocky outcrop. The winged god delicately lifts a lock of Psyche’s hair, as her fingers reach out to touch his face. An erotic charge pervades as the lovers hover tantalizing close to one another, eternally held in the moment before a kiss.
