Edgar Allan Poe’s imaginative storytelling, psychological realism and literary innovations profoundly impacted American & European literature. Poe’s tales of mystery and horror gave birth to the modern detective story and many of his works have become literary classics. Read a selection of his most influential stories and narrative poems including The Tell-tale Heart, The Fall of the House of Usher and The Raven, considered among the greatest works in American literature.

The Best of Poe is available for purchase in the Museum Store or wherever books are sold.

Keith Mikos will be facilitating the discussion for our Fall Book Club. Mikos earned his Ph.D. in English from the University of Minnesota. His research and teaching interests include nineteenth- and twentieth-century American literature, culture and technology, and the history of philosophy. His most recent work examines textual materialism and issues of scale in Emily Dickinson and Herman Melville, where he considers how seemingly small, inconsequential details can have very big implications for interpretation and criticism. Keith teaches courses on the American renaissance, modern American literature, multiethnic literature, literature and film, and the American novel.

Ticket Refund Policy:  Tickets are fully refundable up to 72 hours prior to the event.
